The Valencia family is currently in their 1st session of Tutor House and the program is showing great improvements  in their children's academics and attitude toward learning.  By the second week into Tutor House their teacher's noticed many changes in the students.  Mrs. Valencia had noticed Anthony pausing a lot in his reading.   Now with Tutor House Anthony is a smooth reader and his vocabulary is increasing every day.

Tutor House

Tutor House brings together children of extremely low-income families, their parents, teachers and college mentors in a powerful collaboration. Students of working families earning $10 an hour or less receive free tutoring, enhance their computer skills and develop self-esteem and their confidence to achieve academically. In the end, they become productive members of our community.

This component of SteppingUP focuses on K-12 students in the Orange County community and matches at least three students with one parent and a tutor that acts as a positive role model to encourage and facilitate the learning process.  Tutors work with the students eight hours a week for each 14-week session and there are two sessions each school year.  This component of Stepping UP is home-based, so as to enable parent involvement. In addition, each home-based Tutor House receives a computer with materials that can be permanently obtained by completing two successful Tutor House sessions (one year).
