Tutor House
Tutor House brings together children of extremely low-income families, their parents, teachers and college mentors in a powerful collaboration to create an environment in which students of working families earning $10 an hour or less can receive free tutoring, upgrade their computer skills and rebuild their self-esteem and academia to become productive members of our community.
This component of Stepping UP focuses on K-12 students in the Orange County community and matches at least three students with one parent and a tutor that acts as a positive role model to encourage and facilitate the learning process. Tutors work with the students eight hours a week for each 14-week session and there are two sessions each school year. This component of Stepping UP is home-based, so as to enable parent involvement. In addition, each home-based Tutor House receives a computer with materials that can be permanently obtained by completing two successful Tutor House sessions (one year). |
