Welcome!

OCCHC's mission is to transition extremely low income families towards greater self sufficiency by assisting them with housing and education. Its founding in 1977 was based on the principle that our low-wage families deserve safe housing and safe neighborhoods so that their children would have the same education benefits as those from more affluent neighborhoods.

Fun, fitness, fundraising and freebies!

Some like to run for fun. Others like to run for fitness. We like to run for education!

On the warm morning of Saturday, May 17th, participants of the College Awareness Program woke up ready to promote and encourage higher education. CAP students invited their friends and families to join them in their quest to break the cycle of poverty. Over the course of an hour, more than 100 participants ran laps around Mile Square Park to show that they believed in the value of an education.

After the run, the crowd was re-energized when OCCHC tenant and Zumba instructor, Margarita F., taught them a fun fusion of dance moves. Our guests were also entertained with live emcee and former Academic Advisor, Jason Sean, while enjoying agua frescas and nachos donated from our very own CAP parents! In addition, a resource fair was also set up where twenty of our community partners provided free information on health and education to over 200 visitors.

Congratulations to another successful event, raising over $6,500 to date with pledges still coming in! All proceeds will benefit SteppingUP, a program service provided by OCCHC.
